Rose Show &
First Ever Autumn Garden Tour

Rose Show : Saturday, September 13, 2003
Click here for Gallery of Photos. I couldn't get pictures of everything, and a lot of what I did take turned out to be out-of focus because I forgot to set the camera for close-ups! Sorry.

Rose Garden Tour : Sunday, September 14, 2003
Click here for Gallery of Photos. Again, I couldn't get pictures of everything, plus we were dodging rain showers all day. It started raining Friday afternoon. I felt sympathy for the gardeners who had opened their gardens to the tour; it's impossible to be at your best under those conditions. We toured eight gardens in six hours!

LIST OF PARTICIPATING GARDENERS

Merlin and Daryl Flemion, Milwaukee
This garden is neat as a pin and contains approximately 50 roses plus assorted other perennials and shrubs.

Paul Murphy, West Allis
This garden is chockfull of roses and in addition, you must wander to the far back yard and see one of the prettiest perennial gardens in West Allis.

Jonell Neumann, Milwaukee
No roses in the front yard, but you should see the back! Beautifully designed gardens with nearly 150 roses are tended lovingly by Jonell and Scott.

Bill Radler, Greenfield
Bill is the hybridizer of the famed 'Knock Out'. Most amazing is that Bill has actually installed overhead sprinklers in order to promote as much disease as possible.. Among the 1,400 roses in his yard are the future next generation roses, one of which has smashing fragrance! (For Bill Radler's Garden Tour handout, click here.)

Chuck & Ruth Rutkowski, Bay View
Approximately 600 roses including miniatures, climbers and hybrid teas will simply amaze you! Most of their roses in the back yard are planted in black pots made inconspicuous by their generous use of Victorian Blue salvia around the pots.

Judy and John Schroeder, Greendale
This couple grow over 350 roses, the majority of which are in containers. Now that John has become a Master Gardener, the gardens have become even more diverse and decorative.

Steve Singer, Kenosha
Steve grows approximately 250 roses in his home garden. Steve, a well-known hybridizer and owner of Wisconsin Roses, specializes in exhibition-type blooms that are grafted onto R. multiflora rootstock. His roses are much sought after by rosarians who desire the classic hybrid teas.

Robert Woodworth, Kenosha
Bob grows more than 350 container-grown roses that he showers with TLC. His expertise in growing beautiful roses is excelled only by his enthusiasm and willingness to share his great wealth of knowledge.
